Why You Need JBA Headers

August 30th, 2010 . by admin

In order to know why JBA headers are a welcome addition to your vehicle, let’s first get into the nitty gritty of how engines work.  In any engine (doesn’t matter how many cylinders there are usually 4 or 8), there are 4 cylinders utilizing one exhaust manifold, where the exhaust gases end up with after exiting the cylinder.  After going through the manifold, the gases from 4 cylinders will now flow into a pipe, through a catalytic converter and muffler.  While going through that, the manifold can produce back pressure, as exhaust gas builds pressure in the manifold, affecting the next cylinder using the manifold.  A JBA header is supposed to get rid of back pressure in the manifold.  With a header installed, all cylinders will get their own exhaust pipe.  Then, the collector gathers all the exhaust.  Each individual pipe is bent and cut in exactly the same way as the other pipes, guaranteeing the exact arrival time of the exhaust gases in the collector.  Thus, no back pressure is generated since no cylinder gets lagged behind causing pressure.
